Rise like lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number!
Shake your chains to earth, like dew
Which in sleep had fall'n on you:
Ye are many - they are few

To begin... here is Paolo Uccello's perspectival rendering of a challice c1450-70. It's normally held in the Uffizi, Florence, but I was lucky enough to see it over the Summer in the Renaissance Drawings exhibition at the British Museum.

Study of a challice, attributed to Paolo Uccello c1450-70. Pen and brown ink ruled over stylus and compass. 39.4x24.3cm. Uffizi

It shows the sophistication of the mastery of perspective attained within only a few years of its first devising (credited to Alberti and Brunelleschi).

There is a lovely story told about Uccello by Giorgio Vasari in his Lives of the Artists (2nd edition published 1568). Vasari relates that Uccello's wife 'told people that Paolo used to stay up all night in his study, trying to work out the vanishing points of his perspective, and that when she called him to come to bed he would say: "Oh, what a lovely thing this perspective is!"'
